Petunias on our balcony .

This is the season of flowers.
Plant nurseries in the city are brimming with Marigolds, Chrysanthemum , Petunia , Dahlia and Hibiscus of various colours.
Petunia is my favourite. These plants hardly require any maintenance.

I bought these a month ago and they have been flowering ever since.

image

These bright and beautiful flowers welcome me home every day when I get back from work.

I placed them on the balcony sill where the plants get good sunshine.

image

These plants do not attract any pests/disease which is the biggest plus point.

I love plants and gardening but I hate pests 🙂

3 years of Extended stay on this planet.

Managed to successfully complete 3 years of extended stay on this lovely blue planet.
It is 3 years since I was discharged from the hospital after my Stem cell transplant.
Been a roller coaster ride all the while.
In spite of all the hiccups I can vouch for the fact that I have felt stronger both physically and mentally.
I had to ensure that potassium levels in the blood are not too high hence had to avoid all foods with high potassium . High levels are bad for the kidneys.
Had to stay away from dusty environment. No movies , shopping malls  ,supermarkets, dusty traffic etc. Managed to go to work without much of a problem.
I did suffer from throat infections and bronchitis ( due to dust) several times in these 3 years.
Thankful for all the support from my  family members ,colleagues at work and also my driver, maid and cook who have been very helpful all the while.

Am grateful to the Almighty for giving me these 3 precious years.

Hope to walk around on this beautiful planet for more years to come.

Groceries haul from Bigbasket this morning

Veggies

image

Others

image

Veggies are neatly packed in plastic pouches or wrapped in plastic paper.

image

Quality of the veggies is very good. Would be expensive compared to the prices at the local market but the convenience is what matters.

I love to buy groceries at shanties or farmers markets or rythu bazaars . I like to walk around and look for rare veggies , to check out which vendor has the best quality of each vegetable, but there are occasions when I have to avoid the dusty environment at such places.
This is when BB comes to my rescue.
There was a time not very long ago when I would go to the supermarket almost every alternate day, the driver gets some goods which are required urgently, sometimes hubby has to get groceries and my son too goes once on a while.
Now all of us can relax . The three of us take turns and check the items on the BB website and place the order.
The goods are delivered at a time that is convenient to us.
Once the goods are received , we check the quality and if  unsatisfied the packet can be returned and the balance amount is paid.

Thanks Bigbasket, for making my life easier.

Love yourself , be selfish .

Yes, you read it right.

There was a time ,  as recent as a few years back, when I used to observe people around me who were selfish and were least concerned about others. All that matters to them is their own life .
Those days I had a very bad opinion on such people.

A year later , ie after my Transplant , I realized that all these people have been right all along and it was me who was careless all along , having ignored several important aspects in my life. I hadn’t realized that my priorities were upside down, not knowing how to put my foot down , by not being bold enough , always accommodating and NOT BEING SELFISH enough.

People who appear to be selfish, love themselves a lot . When people love themselves , they are much more energetic. They are focussed ,are conscious of their health/diet, are disciplined and thus capable of achieving all that they wish. Make sure not to harm others intentionally.

There is only one kind of Love in this world and that is to Love yourself. All other forms of love are conditional and temporary and for convenience only.

So , love yourself , be selfish.
In this Kali yuga , the mantra for success is : be selfish.

Kartheeka Deepam 6 Nov 14

Felt very happy to be able to light the Lamp of Gratitude on the auspicious day of Kartheeka pournami.

image

Winter season has just begun. The cool breeze,  bright glow and warmth from the deepam , floating diyas, holy tulsi plant and the moon watching over , all together created an ethereal ambience.

image

A twig from an Amla tree was also placed in the pot and worshipped.

While the religious significance of this day is about the triumph of good over evil , Lord Shiva killing the three demons, it is also about recognising and worshipping Tulsi and Amla tree. Worshipping the plants for their medicinal properties. Incorporating the leaves of Tulsi (boosts immunity) and the fruits of  Amla tree (richest source of Vit C ) into our diet is highly recommended and this ritual reminds us of their importance  once again.

The deepam has 365 wicks , one for each day in the year.
When I was younger , mom, my sister and I would prepare all the 365 wicks using cotton.
A small bundle of 365 wicks can be bought at any store 🙂

The full moon was covered by a veil.

Juicing – Pineapple + Orange

There are fresh Pineapples and Oranges in the market these days. I love the smell and taste of ripe pineapples. One reason for not buying pineapples is the effort involved in peeling .
Peeling pineapples at home is a messy job.
Thanfully, these days the vendors do it for us. We just have to choose a pineapple from the pile and hand it over to the vendor. Using a sharp knife he cuts off the top and bottom and then peels away the thick outer layer , places the pineapple in a plastic cover ands it to us. I used 1/3 of the pineapple to prepare the juice today.

image

image

image

The only way to take in more pineapple is by juicing it. Eating a pineapple causes itching in the mouth, so juice it and enjoy.
As usual I add one spoon of honey to the juice.

Sugar is poison so it has to be avoided as much as possible in the food/drinks that we take.

‘Swachch Bharath ‘ @BHEL by IT employees

The employees of IT department

image

have been actively involving themselves in cleaning up the surrounding areas of IT buildings.

image

image

Every saturday at1.30pm onwards for  an hour has been dedicated for this activity. This is the 3rd Saturday and we are still going strong.

Some who were hesitant to get involved in the previous week are now comfortable and participated eagerly 🙂

The housekeeping and gardening staff are beaming 🙂
Good for us too . All of them making very good use of the opportunity . As you can see from the pics , this activity does a whole lot of good to the tummy by melting away tummy fat 🙂

The fun activity relaxes the mind .Our skin also gets to manufacture some Vit D by getting exposed to the sun.

A great initiative by NaMo.

Surely , this initiative will have a great impact on each one of us in terms of appreciating and inculcating cleanliness at home ,the surroundings and in the kids. Not that it doesn’t exist now but the slogan ‘Swachch Bharat’ in itself gives a lot of pride to every Indian.
